European pig breeding gathers at the Reggio Emilia fairgrounds for the 51st edition of the International Pig Show

New technology, products, meetings, world-level conferences and a selection of the most important companies in the pig breeding field coming from all over Italy and, in many cases, from all over the world, China and Korea included. The 51st edition of the Rassegna Suinicola Internazionale (International Pig Show), scheduled at the Reggio Emilia Fairgrounds from april the 14th to april the 16th, comes in a difficult moment for the pig breeding market either in Italy and Europe alike. But just because of that, pig breeders are looking forward to it with anticipation: for more than half a century the “Rassegna” has been giving breeders the best in technology, products and know-how in order to make the most of their work.
230 exhibitors from all over the world (there are companies coming from each and every country in Europe as well as China, Korea and Canada) with a 30% increase in the foreign exhibitors since last edition; 22,000 square meters of exhibition in three pavillons; an interesting schedule of meetings an conferences with top-level lecturers; the visit and lecture by the italian Minister of agriculture, Onorevole Saverio Romano: these are the figures of the 2011 edition of the Rassegna, once again the European capital of the pig breeding.

THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE
The official opening of the Rassegna will take place on Thursday, the 14th, at 11 am. Cutting the tricolor tape will be Tiberio Rabboni, head of agricultural policy for the Emilia Romagna county. Tiberio Rabboni is also going to lecture pig breeders and the press about the state of pig breeding in his county. On Friday, the 15th, at 10 am the Rassegna is going to welcome the new minister of agriculture Saverio Romano, who is going to visit the exhibition and meet pig breeders and the press at the Anas (national association of pig breeders) stand and explain how the Italian government is going to manage this difficult moment for the pig breeding market in Italy and Europe. Romano is going to answer the question of pig breeders and exhibitors as well.

WORLD LEVEL LECTURES
Many are the interesting meetings scheduled at the 2011 edition of the Rassegna. One stands out: on Friday morning, starting at 9 am, former Italian Minister of Agriculture and currently Head of the agriculture commission at the European Union Parliament, Paolo De Castro will be talking about “Acp and the pig breeding Italian chain”.

WHY 30 PIGS ONLY
Two years ago the Rassegna hosted 150 living pigs in its pavillons. There are only 30 this year, due to a new law which forces breeder to kill every animal after it has been taken to an exhibition.
